OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei finally reveals the name of the forthcoming flagship of the company, which he calls OnePlus 6 and speaks frankly about the device in an interview with The Verge. According to him OnePlus is finally entering into the top notch trend pioneered by Apple and his company’s next flagship OnePlus 6 will have a notch at the top of its display, but it will not be as large as that of the iPhone X. According to him, a big notch like the iPhone X is not required on the OnePlus 6 since it doesn’t feature a structured light component equivalent to the dot projector which powers Apple’s Face ID technology. Rather, the company plans to will locate a number of components such as the earpiece, front camera, ambient light sensor, and LED notification light into that space. The top notch will measure 19.616×7.687mm.

According to Carl Pei, his company has not alone decided to engineer the Smartphone according to their wish. They had taken the view of 1000 Google Play Apps to know how they would accept addition of the notch on the OnePlus 6. The final decision was made to locate the clock at left side if the display to allow other status icons more space. This upcoming Smartphone from OnePlus will house the largest screen ever from the company which will have the screen-to-body ratio of 90% and while playing video, the top notch will be hidden. Pei also confirmed the revelations wrong that the OnePlus 6 will look equal to the Oppo R15.

According to Pei, the new design from Apple actually makes sense. He also confirmed that the 3.5mm headphone jack will be found on the Smartphone and the bottom chin will be there, though it will not be that much expensive like that of Apple. Answering the question why OnePlus thought of adding the notch to the screen of the OnePlus 6, Pei said this is an attempt to give the users as much screen real estate as possible. This is also essential to remove the need for Android’s onscreen navigation buttons so that the viewers will be able to have a glimpse of better screen estate.
